NZGAP's Environmental Management System (EMS) is an optional add-on to your current NZGAP certificate.
Primarily, this environmental add-on is for growers who wish to manage their regional council’s environmental requirements alongside their usual NZGAP audit. The environmental issues of concern to the council include nutrient management, soil management, irrigation management, water body management and biodiversity. These topics are covered in more detail here than they are in the core NZGAP standard
The EMS add-on is also for those growers who wish to demonstrate their environmental performance to the market with an optional, additional scope which includes agrichemical use, energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
Canterbury growers need to act soon to get a resource consent in place by 1 July if required, so click here if you are unsure of what you need to do next.
